Gambling, Grand Prix Racing and Gentlemen’s Clubs in Montreal:
If New York is the city that never sleeps, Montreal is the place where all your playtime fantasies can come true. Sure you may need a passport to cross the border but that’s a relatively small price to pay once you consider that short time it takes to get there from most US cities. From women who are smoking hot (many of whom will talk to you only in French) to unbelievable restaurants, Montreal seems to have more of everything, especially in the Summer. After skipping a year, The Grand Prix auto race will be coming back to its Canadian hometown and now is the time to nab your tickets (and hotel room reservations) if you want to be there for the weekend of June 11-13th. And if you’re into comedy or blues, the Just for Laughs and the Comedy Fest are the two biggest festivals you do not want to miss. From gambling (Casino de Montreal) to their infamous strip clubs (just think Club Super Sexe or Wanda’s), you needn’t worry about getting it all in – most places pour the last call at 3:00 a.m. plus there are plenty of after-hour clubs (especially if you’re into the rave scene) that stay open until dawn.
Rocking and Barbequing in Memphis
If you’ve always wanted to pay homage to the King, then 2010 is the year you must make the trip. That’s right, Elvis would have celebrated his 75th this past January, and Memphis and the surrounding areas will be rocking and celebrating from now until the end of Summer. Now it may be last minute, but The Beale Street Music Festival will be happening the weekend of April 30th-May 2nd and there’s a legendary line-up you don’t want to miss, including Earth Wind and Fire, Alice in Chains and Jeff Hiatt, all overlooking the Mississippi river. And for those who cannot make it, come June 6-9 for the Annual Elvis Presley Festival in Tupelo, MS (just 90 minutes away), which includes music, art exhibitions and events including a 5k Running with the King Marathon. And while the music scene may be what lures you to Memphis, the barbecue may tempt you to stay, especially if you plan your visit during the 2010 World Barbeque Championships. Crazy but it’s true, from May 13-15, 2010 hundreds of teams from around the world will convene for this annual grilling bonanza. Hungry men are all welcome to view (and taste) the delicacies!
Tour De France Riding in France
Paris may be for lovers but for a brief period in July when the Tour de France passes through the city it’s a roadster’s paradise. Leading up to, during and following the big race, teams of cycling enthusiasts climb into top shape by attacking the hills, valleys and paths of the world’s best biking champions. This July you can join Breaking Away Bicycle Tours for one of the most exciting TDF routes ever, set amidst the incredible French Alps. Enjoy live race viewing of three dramatic stages, including the live mountain stage finishes to Les Rousses and over the fearsome Col de la Madeleine! Highlights of this exclusive tour include cycling through the Jura Mountains, the picturesque Mauriene Nature Park and overnights in Les Saisies and L'Alpe d'Huez!
Ski and Adventure Sport in Switzerland
Switzerland is the place for ski bums who want to hit the slopes during the summer. Downhill and cross country enthusiasts looking for snow flock to the St. Moritz and Zermatt from April through October. Plus, the après-ski scene, ritzy nightlife, and other popular outdoor activities make Switzerland a fabulous destination if you’re looking to break away with the boys. Best be prepared as snow conditions fluctuate from year to year and as a result many of the hills close before 2:00 pm, so be prepared to be up early. If weather doesn’t provide good skiing, outdoor adventurists can find plenty of other things to do, especially in the extreme sport town of Interlaken where river rafting, canyoning and paragliding off mountains are not considered extreme!
