Q: Best Solo Activity?

Though I don't do it enough, solo travel can be great. You often see things, do things and meet people that you wouldn't if you were traveling with others.

Q: You used to live in two different cities for work. How did you did with all that solo business travel?

It was not easy shuttling back and forth between NY and Charlotte every week or two, but I got used to it and actually enjoyed the variety. I lead pretty different lives in each city, with a separate group of friends and a very different pace. I always miss being a true New Yorker though, as short visits make it hard to maintain relationships and have any real stability.

Q: From surfing in Costa Rica you went on a mission to Israel and now are in Thailand. Please tell us how you find the trips you choose and which are some of your favorite travel providers.

I'm a big fan of adventure travel, including skiing, hiking, biking and rafting. Lately I've become involved with Habitat For Humanity's Global Village program. My first trip was to Mozambique last summer where we built small homes for orphaned children. I'm currently in Thailand to build a home for a family in the northern part of the country. These are very rewarding experiences which combine adventure, the opportunity to see a country from a very different perspective, meeting a terrific group of people and, of course, helping people in need. Its also a great solo travel idea.

Q: You always seem to have a house full of guests, which is a quite unique quality for a single guy. Why do you enjoy playing host and do you have any tips when it comes to entertaining and feeding guests?

I can't say I'm a particularly good host, but having a great group of friends helps. We are constantly planning events and really enjoy each other's company. Lots of wine doesn't hurt either.

Q: Your perfect spot?

Very tough question as it depends on my mood. Its hard to beat a beautiful sunset on an unspoiled beach, but I have to say that an evening with good friends and good atmosphere always works.

Q: Most Inspiring Book?

Probably The Fountainhead, but strangely because it convinced me not to be an architect.

Q: Best Restaurants to dine out solo?

I don't usually dine out alone so have no good answer for this one. However, if I'm travelling alone and trying to find a place, I usually look for a restaurant with some atmosphere and a place to eat at the bar. I've had some great meals and conversation that way.

Q: If you are a homeowner, are there any tips you can give to singles who are looking to invest in property?

Only to make sure you know what you're getting into. Buying property, particularly a second home or rental property always brings with it unexpected costs and unforeseen problems. Realistic expectations and lots of patience are important. And of course, buy in a good location.

Q: They tell us you are into martial arts. How did you get into it and what are some of the mind body benefits you have gained from your practice?

I've been practicing taekwondo on and off since I was young, but about four years ago starting getting more serious. Its a great way to stay in shape, gain some discipline and meet new friends. And it may even come in handy in a dark alley some time.

Q: Best way to beat the blues?

Exercise always helps (failing that, there's always booze).

Q: What do you love most about being single?

The flexibility to do what I want, when I want (as long as its legal of course).
