Back-to-School Single Mom, Dawn!

Q: Where are you from?
Northeast Ohio.
Q: Biggest accomplishment you achieved on your own?
I have so many accomplishments that I am proud of, but the biggest one to me now is juggling school and being a single mom. It is difficult, but so far I have accomplished it.
Q: Name three things a man can do on a date that would make you lose interest?
Be rude, of course, to me or the people around or serving us. Talk about himself the whole time. I like to get to know someone but when someone dominates the conversation it gets kind of boring. Make improper sexual advances on a first date, for sure.
Q: Favorite vacation spot for one or with friends?
Vacation? That word is not in my vocabulary ;) I really enjoyed a vacation I did take to Wilmington, North Carolina.
Q: You have your own blog. Can you tell us a little bit more about it and what inspired you to start writing about your life?
I have experienced so much in my life. Everything from domestic violence to being a single mom with no help from the father, to returning to school as a “non traditional student” (read…older). I hope to be an inspiration and also show the reality of life to someone going through what I have.
Q: What do you love most about being single?
I love the fact that I can make decisions about my life and what I want to do. Such as when I decided to go back to nursing school. I don’t have to answer to anyone about the fact that I spend a lot of time studying or in school.
Q: Best spot to dine out alone in your area?
I always enjoy going to the bigger restaurants with bars, such as TGIFridays, or Applebees. I will sit at the bar and watch the televisions, and many times just have conversation with the people around me. I find sitting at the bar is easier because sitting at a table alone can be so lonely.
Q: What advice would you give to singles that have put their lives on hold until “they meet the one?”
Being in a relationship doesn’t make you who you are. If you are not comfortable in your life and what you are doing, you will never be able to find “the one.” Besides, if you put a dream on hold, maybe “the one” is part of that dream, such as a trip…he/she may be also on that trip.
Q: Breaking up with friends is one of the hardest things to do. What’s the best way to handle it?
If someone is in your life that is toxic, it will only bring you down. If you get rid of that toxicity, you have no where else to go but up. Once you realize that you are doing the best for you, then it makes it so much easier.
Q: How does one bounce back when all of their friends suddenly get married?
Find and make new single friends. Don’t get rid of the ones that got married, but having friends that are single makes some outings easier. Also, keep a girls/guys night out monthly or weekly with your married friends…they are still the same people you were friends with, they just have other responsibilities.
