Q: A friend of mine just informed me that many gyms are slashing fees because of the economy. If I am a long time member of a fitness club, can I renegotiate my monthly fees or do I have to switch gyms to take advantage of this opportunity?

Great question! With the roller coaster of an economy and everybody tightening their purse strings, it’s understandable that you want to cut corners wherever you can. Health and fitness are so important, especially during this time. Exercise relieves stress, keeps weight down and can give you a sense of control, so giving up a gym membership may not be a wise idea. With that, I would most definitely approach the membership staff at your gym and ask if there is anything they can do for you. They certainly don’t want to lose you as a member and many gyms have the ability to reduce your monthly fee or give you a few months free.
