With cold weather and the Holidays right around the corner, the cravings for rich, comforting desserts is suddenly upon us. The question is can dessert be done for one?

No matter what the hankering, from decadent pumpkin pie and creamy toffee pudding, the wayward economy may spell good news for dessert lovers who are searching for sweet single serving products.

Mini Desserts

Tight budgets are causing more singles to eat meals at home instead of restaurants, and a variety of small gourmet shops are responding to the trend by adding single serving and mini desserts to their repertoire. The following is just a taste of what’s in store for you this season:

The Daphne Baking Company: A focus on small portions for singles is what propelled the Daphne Baking Company to create three-and-one-quarter inch tarts, which are smaller than the standard four inch size one usually encounters. These gourmet single serving desserts are easy to store, thaw and serve simple, and come in 4 delectable flavors including chocolate, lemon, macadamia nut and pumpkin. Don’t worry if they are not available in a store near you, all tarts can be ordered directly online via the Daphne Baking Company website.

The Edwards Baking Company: This Atlanta-based bakery continues its march to cornering the pie market, and they are now growing their brand by serving up single-serve pie wedges and miniature pies to satisfy single consumers. Big in taste but small in size and dollars is why we love them, plus there are many flavors to choose from (Apple Crisp, Brownie Sundae and Turtle Brownie Sundae) that are all equally satisfying.

The Sticky Toffee Pudding Company: One of our editors stumbled upon these warm, moist cake-like single serving desserts after perusing through the desserts section of Zabars in NYC. These were the closest thing to sticky toffee pudding we could find on this side of the pond, and it’s no surprise – the woman behind the scenes is originally from England. If toffee is not your thing, you can always try the English Lemon Pudding, Molten Chocolate Pudding and Sticky Ginger Pudding.

No Pudge: If what you are looking for is a healthy alternative, we suggest you grab a package of No Pudge Brownie Mix. While these mixes are meant for more than one, they do list an easy single serving recipe on their website, which we share with you here: In a small microwaveable container mix 2 tablespoons of your favorite flavor No Pudge! Brownie mix with 1 tablespoon of non-fat vanilla yogurt. Microwave on high for one minute.

Indulge and Enjoy!
