"Feed a cold, starve a fever." When it comes to our health there are plenty of adages, so is there anything that can help cure a hangover?

Some still swear by 'Hair of the Dog' elixirs, which are alcohol infused morning after cocktails that aspire to alleviate hangover symptoms. And since the Bloody Mary, purportedly invented in Hemingway hangout Harry's Bar in Paris in 1920, is the reigning champion within this category, here are some recipes that might help you recover.

Classic Bloody Mary
1.5 oz vodka
Dash of lemon (or lime) juice
Worcestershire sauce
2 or 3 drops Tabasco sauce
Pepper, salt and celery salt
5 oz. tomato juice

Over ice in a tall glass add spices, then vodka. Fill with tomato juice and stir. Garnish with celery stick and lime wedge.

Bloody Mary Variations

Bloody Caesar - Use Clamato juice instead of tomato juice & rim glass with celery salt
Deadly Mary - Use gold tequila instead
Bloody Maria - Use tequila instead
Red Snapper - Use gin instead
Danish Mary - Use aquavit instead
Bloody Bull - Add chili pepper and beef stock
Veggie Mary - Use V8 juice instead of tomato juice
Bloodshot Mary - Any of these done a shot at a time

We can't vouch for the effectiveness, but we can certainly vouch for the fun! Of course drinking water, getting lots of rest and popping a few Tylenols before you head out, before you turn in or after you wake up are some of the ways in which you can ward off the after effects of one too many cocktails. An over sized bagel, minus the lox, can also go a long way in dissipating the effects of the alcohol that's still running through your veins.
