Dating on a Dime
Q:How do you date in a down economy? Is it becoming more acceptable to skip dinner or $14 cocktails? If so, what is the protocol? Are there new trends/venues that are acceptable in this environment that will not repel potential interests? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

These days going to a bar that has $14 cocktails or $35 dinner entrees seems to the exception. It is perfectly acceptable to suggest fun, kitschy less expensive eating establishments and even trendy dive bars to get together. Take advantage of happy hours and 2 for 1 specials. Because of the economy, even upscale restaurants are offering prix-fixe menus or reduced specials. You can also get creative about your dates, such as bowling, picnics in the park, bike riding and free concerts.
If your date doesn't understand that you need to save a few bucks, you might want to consider the longevity of this relationship. Money will always play an essential part in a relationship and if you can't be honest about it in the beginning, chances are it will only get more difficult.
