Eating Disorders Among Men
Q: Over the past 2 years I have managed to lose 55 pounds. Lately however I have been extremely restrictive with my eating and wonder how common eating disorders are in men. Do you know of any programs or support groups that focus on men or where else I can seek treatment?

While women are more commonly affected by eating disorders, more than a million men and boys battle the illness every day, according to statistics from the NAtional Eating Disorder Association. Most health care practiioners and eating disorder specialists will be trained to identify and treat these issues in men and women alike.
My recommendation is to locate an health center in your area. If there is an eating disorder counselor, speak open and honestly with them and they should be able to direct you in getting the right treatment. You shouldn't suffer in silence. Eating disorders and pervasive in our country and can take a toll. No matter what your gender is, recognizing the problem is half the battle...now you just need to find the proper professional guidance and treatment. I applaud your courage and wish you the best in finding treatment.
