Good News for Golf Lovers: More Singles Are Getting on the Greens
![]() |
Looking to play more singles golf this season but not in the market for a country club membership? Here’s some good news for you! An increasing number of organizations, leagues and clubs appear to be offering special golf programs for singles. So if you want to avoid the steep costs, snooty scene and screaming tweens on the greens, here are some alternative golf options for singles: |
1. American Singles Golf Association: Established in 1992, the ASGA consists of real singles you meet face-to-face and, of course, play golf with through organized outings and group tee off times. The association now boasts more than 25,000 members with 70 chapters throughout the country. At the local level, chapters hold membership meetings once each month as well as social-only events on a regular basis. Plus, there are planned retreats and excursions like the trip to Pinehurst this Memorial Day Weekend. Membership rates are $70 per one year.
2. Golf Camp or Academy: Inconsistent driver? Can't get "up and down"? Have a problem with short putts? If you want to improve your game, a golf intensive is the solution for you. There are coed clinics happening everywhere, like the Adult Golfari at the Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in North Carolina, most of which include morning lessons followed by free time in the afternoon. And if you ladies prefer to make it a girlfriend getaway, The Wintergreen Resort on the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia has a Golf Academy that offers a 2 day clinic for you and your besties. Tuition for the Girls Golf Getaway is $479 per person plus tax. Lodging not included. Finding a golf camp getaway near you takes just a few clicks of effort.
3. Golf Leagues: Social golf leagues bring adults together who want to have fun in their city through organized group golf. Players are paired up with different players each week for a set number of rounds throughout the season, followed by a tournament for all the players in the final week. Some also offer small group lessons each week before everyone tees off. If you’re interested in joining a group, your best bets are local recreation centers, sports associations and organizations. Or, if you don’t want to commit for a season, you can always look for one day/night events through Meet Market Adventures, Events and Adventures or MeetUp.com
4. Golf Matchmakers: What happens when you combine online dating with golf enthusiast? You get GolfMates.com, DateaGolfer.com and Golferdates.com - online dating services designed specifically for golfers. And why not?! Golf is a great date activity because it’s relaxing, social and if you don’t get along by the 9th or 18th whole you can always call it quits. But don’t be fooled, it’s not all about dating. Membership to each of these communities allows you to share your passion for golf and expand your network.
