How Can I Compete with my Married Peers
Q: An executive position is open at my company. The problem is I am a single woman going up against 2 married, family guys. How can I make sure that my marital status does not come in the way of my career?
Your concern is a valid one but according to Joy Martin, my company's Career Changer Strategy Coach, you should know that your marital status should not be a factor in the decision-making process - in fact it is illegal. We know however that these things happen in the workplace. Joy suggests you focus on your assets - your skills, expertise, contacts, the fact that you are focused on your career, hungry to grow and learn and that you have the time and energy to put forth in this new position.
