How to Meet A Mate at 48

Q: I've been doing online dating for 11 months. Now I know you have to give things time, but I'm getting tired of just talking. I tried to entice a couple of guys to meet and yet they don't budge. I've decided to give it another month and just give up. And by the way, yes I'm happy to be single but it would be nice to go out on dates once in a while. I had a 5 year drought and I'm not sure if that's good or not. I'm 48 years old, and it does get harder, especially when I'm set in my ways, if all this makes sense.

Of course it makes sense. Eleven months, though certainly frustrating, is not a long time when it comes to online matchmaking (it took me eight years of online dating to find my Mr. Right!!)

You have to keep in mind that while online dating is a great way to meet new people, it's just one of many outlets for you to consider. You should not give it up entirely but you may want to expand your search by taking it offline. You can join social groups, try volunteering or get involved in a new sport or activity such as tennis, golf or wine tasting which are of interest to both women and men. Or start a ladies night out club with some of your girlfriends and carefully select spots that you know men frequent - sports bars, pubs or steakhouses are always good options! Most important, I also encourage you to be gentle with yourself, the imposed self-pressure can be damaging to your spirit and may be off-putting to men around you.
