Is it still the Season of Thigh High Boots?

Q: I am in the market for a new pair of sexy black boots for the holidays. I am tempted to get a pair of up to the thigh ones, which seem to be en vogue this season. My only concern is whether they are too risque or inappropriate for a single woman appoaching 45.  Any thoughts?

Thigh high boots made a comeback this Fall, and if properly balanced can make a great fashion statement.   These types of boots come in a variety of styles and lengths – from right above the knee all the way up to the upper hamstring. You will probably do best sticking with a more modestcut since they will remain in style even after the trend has passed. Also look out for soft leather boots which fold to knee level so that you make this a multi-purpose wardrobe purchase.  Thigh high boots make a bold if not suggestive statement, so it’s important that you dummy them down when dressing up. A long blazer and skirt or leggings with a long sweater are always classy combinations. Just stay away from short minis and glittery tops or you will look like you just stepped out of a Girls Gone Wild video.

Fashion should be fun but not foolish so you may not want to wear these to work or corporate functions, and are probably better off leaving them in your closet for serious or somber gatherings.  If age is a concern, take a friend along with you when you shop for a second opinion.
