The best place to begin is with your employer. If you company does not provide any relocation services, ask for employee referrals in the office to which you will be moving. Local colleagues are a great resource and will often offer their time and assistance to help you find a new place to live.

Nonetheless, since you will be new to town I recommend that you take a few days exploring all the local neighborhoods before your official move date. This way you can find a location that best suits your lifestyle needs and avoid being taken advantage of by brokers and landlords.

After that, go online! That's where everyone is going today and it is the best place for information. Visit several different websites and look for apartments that fit your criteria. A great place to start is Craigslist.com since you can deal directly with homeowners. Another excellent national property engine is Move.com which provides a wealth of local information, relocation calculators and sub-sites such as WelcomeWagon.com.

If you need a little hands-on help, you can find a real estate agent in any city at Realtor.com. Just make sure that they are associated with a reputable real estate company and professionally certified.
