Jobless: Should I be Dateless?
Q: I have been out of work for almost 4 months. I would like to continue dating but have a hard time believing that a single woman would be interested in a man who is not making a living. Should I put my love life on hold until I land a job?
Assuming you have not become a couch potato during your time off, don’t put your love life on hold! Many singles forced into temporary sabbaticals are taking advantage of their time off by traveling, going back to school, volunteering and/or learning new hobbies. As a result, their lives become multi-dimensional and dynamic, full of fascinating experiences that make for interesting dating discussions.
If you have not taken advantage of your time off, I urge you to do so immediately. Get involved with a local volunteer program, treat yourself to a low-budget singles adventure or join a club. Remember, the extra-curricular activities you engage in while unemployed are fantastic opportunities to meet other singles, network for potential job leads and feel good about yourself. If you are budget conscious as many of us are these days, consider checking out low-cost dating options in your area. The opportunities for setting up a high impact, low-budget date are endless and fun.
