1. Can you tell us a little bit more about your site, City Confidant?
- City Confidant is a free email newsletter and website about local dining, entertainment, shopping, culture, travel, and events for the surrounding Seattle area. Whether born and raised or new to Seattle, City Confidant offers guided advice to rediscover the city you call home. It also makes a great guide for those visiting the Northwest!
2. For those singles planning to visit Seattle, what are three under-the-radar must-see spots or activities?
- If you have never been to Seattle before and want to hit all the touristy spots on a guided tour we recommend the Ride the Duck tour. It’s a huge duck-shaped amphibious vehicle that tours Seattle landmarks. Our insider's tip is to enjoy brunch at a spot like Portage Bay and have a few Mimosas before departing.
- A great sight that’s off the grid is the Freemont Troll. The 19 foot Troll, who lives under the Aurora Bridge, has been spooking visitors for over 20 years. Makes all those childhood nightmares come true.
- Another fun way to see Seattle is by hot air balloon. There are multiple companies just outside the city that offer sunset (or sunrise) trips with incredible views of the Cascade Mountains.
3. Can you tell us about some of the unique events and happenings that make Seattle a great hotbed for singles?
- One of the best parts about Seattle is that there is always something going on. From endless wine and cheese festivals to major summer concerts, there’s an event for every season. Events unique to Seattle include Chateau Ste. Michelle’s summer concert series, the Northwest Folklife Festival, Bite of Seattle, and our ultimate Lake Washington favorite, Seafair, with hydroplane races and the Blue Angels!
4. What are some of the best places for single women to meet men?
- Seattle is consistently rated one of the fittest cities in America, people love to be active. One of the best ways for women to meet men is at an activity they love, whether at the gym, on the golf course, cooking, during a hike or out boating, there are lots of active singles all over the Northwest. If being active isn’t your thing, finding other events like wine tasting or even happy hours (see below) might better suit your taste.
5. What is the best day escape for locals in need of a break?
- The Long Beach Peninsula is one of our favorite city escapes. A little more than 3 hours from Seattle, the Long Beach Peninsula offers a 30 mile stretch of beach with tons of activities for singles and families alike. During the spring the beach is filled with kites for their annual kite festival.
6. Number one spot that will impress anyone on a first date?
- Hands down our favorite romantic spot is the Salish Lodge which overlooks the Snoqualmie Falls. About 30 min outside of Seattle, the Salish Lodge offers breathtaking views of the falls along with world class service in their restaurant and hotel. You can start the date with a 1 mile hike down to the bottom of the falls and wrap it up with brunch or lunch at the Lodge, and if the date's going really well the hotel is right there!
7. What top spots would you recommend to singles who may be dining out alone in Seattle?
- Two words: Happy Hour. Almost every Seattle and Eastside restaurant offers an after-work and late-night happy hour. The restaurant bars are packed with singles and groups all enjoying discounted drinks and appetizers. It’s the perfect way to be surrounded without dining totally alone.
8. Living single can be extremely challenging. What do you think is the biggest hurdle for singles living in Seattle and how can they overcome it?
- Being single in Seattle is much like being single in any other city. It’s about location and desire. In Seattle, the neighborhood you live in can make a huge difference to your social life. Living downtown you always feel surrounded, especially if you are in one of the high-rise buildings, while living outside the city, on the Eastside for example, you are a little more separated and have more of the neighborhood community, typically with lots of families. There are great in-betweens too like Queen Anne, Ballard and Belltown which offer great living choices as well as a multitude of dining and social options.
9. Any local organizations or groups you can recommend to individuals who want to get connected to other singles?
- Some great companies we send our single friends and subscribers to are Seattle Uncorked, A Lasting Connection, and Space City Mixer
