Lisa Breaks All Solo Stereotypes

Q: Best Solo Activity?
Riding my bike up the West Side Highway.
Q: Biggest Accomplishment you achieved on your own?
Moving to New York, buying an apartment in the West Village and starting my own company.
Q: Any words of advice or tips on moving to a new city on your own?
Act like you are a tourist in your own city. See the things you would if you were traveling - ask for directions… you never know who you will meet.
Q: Alone at the movies or in front of the television?
I love going to the movies alone, it is one of my favorite things to do. You would be surprised how many other ‘aloners' are there. It is a great escape.
Q: Therapy or Life Coach?
Life-coach. Once you are aware of a pattern, getting the tools to take action is what making changes and evolving is all about. Although I prefer a mentor over a life coach, the best way to get somewhere is to admire someone else who is already there.
Q: Cook or Order-In?
I either cook or go out. I never order in. I like being around people too much to order in unless I am sick, and cooking for myself keeps me healthy and saving money. But I would rather cook for two!
Q: You recently traveled to Costa Rica all alone! What was that like?
It was an amazing experience… really solidified my passion for travel and my confidence in myself as a traveler. I took a 5 hour bus ride from the city into the mountains and found my way around taking animal night tours and local bird watching; being alone attracts people to you and I met some amazing people along the way. I tried so many new things, like riding the zip lines across the tops of the forest canopies – truly exhilarating. The best part was not having to ask anyone if this or that is ok, I just went with what I felt at the moment and lived it up. The only advice I have for others traveling alone is to always make sure you know where you are sleeping the first night you get somewhere. Everything else you can figure out as you go, although a little Internet research or book research doesn't hurt.
Q: Personal Safety Starts with?
Self awareness
Q: Renter or Home Owner?
Proud Home Owner for 8 years now, studio in the West Village. Small, but mine.
Q: How has being a mixed media artist influenced your independence?
Being an artist is my favorite thing about me. Mixing my graphic design, fabrics and found objects is just
the beginning of showing all my layers of self. My art documents my life, using words and textures to
represent where I am in the now. I have met so many great and talented people in my short time as a mixed media artist it reminds me that there are people out there like me and that patience will continue to bring them into my life.
Having art shows builds my confidence immensely as an artist and a person. To put my work out there for eyes to critique takes humbleness and courage - both of which I strive for daily. To see my fabric work, please visit threadcountart.com
Q: What do you love most about being single?
The freedom to go and come, or not go and, or not come "home" as I please. To be really in the moment and to live spontaneously is what I love most. Being single has allowed me to focus on my passions and put into place a lifestyle that can work alone or with someone. My personal independence is important to me, and being with someone should feel like a seamless integration of souls where I still feel a sense of freedom inside the collective.
