Thrifty is still in vogue for Fall, and you need not be bummed out just because you missed the deadline to buy an all-you-can-travel pass from jetBlue. Savings seem to be everywhere, and as usual companies are giving it away just in time for Labor Day. Keep your eyes on the lookout for these types of discounts if you want to get the most for your money:
End of Summer Savings

From sunglasses to suntan lotion, all things Summer go on sale in August. You will save money and get a head start for next Summer by stocking up on seasonal items placed on clearance now. Plus, if weather permits, you may even be able to enjoy your purchases right through October.

Sure no one loves bathing suit shopping, but if ever there was a time it’s now. Swimwear mark-downs can be as high as 70% at stores including Victoria Secrets, Eddie Bauer and BCBG. Outdoor and sporting goods chains, such as Sierra Trading Post and REI are also slashing prices on their entire inventory of camping goods, so if you’re in the market for a new tent now’s the time to take advantage.

Last Minute Lures

A flailing economy means travel, hospitality and entertainment providers are stuck with extra inventory. The good news for you is that they are looking to unload it to avoid the vacancies and inventory overload they’re facing as Summer winds down.

Travel bargains for Labor Day can be found, and they are not the only thing on the market – every city depends on tourism and is likely looking to lure people to help out their local economy, which means price cuts on theater, concert and event tickets, exhibitions and other deals, especially if you are buying a ticket for one.

Back to School Savings

There was a time when back-to-school savings was all about the kids, but oh how times have changed! If you think like a college kid, you can add new appliances to your kitchen at a fraction of the price. At Target for example, compact and convenient items like microwaves, blenders and even media electronics have all been marked down for dorm room living. The entire line of Foreman grills has also been price-slashed, with savings no matter which model you choose.

Retailers like Best Buy are also offering incentives for the campus crew, and it’s more than just laptops they’re shilling. Be on the look-out for high end electronics like flat screen televisions which are the special sale item of the month. Then head to a store that can give you a good value on office and paper supplies while the cheap school supplies last and get a head start to organizing your home office as the leaves begin to turn.

Pre-Registration Rewards

Early bird specials don’t revolve entirely around dinner plans at this time of year. There are hundreds of continuing education classes, professional conferences and health clubs which are campaigning for new members. Signing up in advance may save you a few extra bucks, so don’t wait until the last minute to register.

Sometimes all it takes to get the most bang for you buck is to retool your shopping habits by considering deals and promotions that may not be timed or targeted directly at you. Plan ahead, and you can save money. Who can argue with that?
