Pretty Face with Body Jitters
Q: I have always been told "I have such a pretty face" which means of course, I have some pounds to lose. As a result, I have become very insecure in my own body and afraid of being exposed naked. How can I get over "my self" and learn how to like love making without being so embarrassed?
Having heard positive comments about your face but not your body from a very early age, you understandably translated that into feeling you needed to lose weight. This is your reality and a very difficult one to change. You might start by tracing the origin of the story you tell yourself-how it came about, when, by whom and ask yourself if you need to continue to tell it to yourself anymore. Are you just a few pounds beyond your healthy weight and how would you feel if you believed you had both a pretty face and a pretty body, no matter what you weigh. I think that exploring your long-standing, inteferring thoughts that evoke insecurity, fear and embarrassment with the assistance of a psychotherapist is the most helpful thing you can do for yourself so ultimately you can have the intimate relationship you deserve.
