The Dangers of Douching
Q: When I was younger everyone used feminine hygiene products but I understand they can be dangerous. Is this true and if so can you recommend some safer vaginal cleansing solutions?

Vaginal cleansing or douching is a process of rinsing or cleaning the vagina by flushing it with water or other solutions to get rid of discharge, left over menstrual blood, etc. Over the last few years, the medical community has published studies highlighting the dangers of this practice. Douching on a regular basis disrupts the pH balance in the vaginal area, rendering a woman more vulnerable to infection. The forcefulness of the flush can also spread bacteria into the vaginal canal, cervix and higher up into the uterus.
Most doctors would not recommend douching. Instead, when you shower, use warm water and unscented soap to clean the outer areas of your genitals, never forcing anything inside. Products with a heavy scent can irritate you, so try to avoid them.
