The Skinny on Toning Up

Q: I've been working out for a few months. I heard muscles weighs more than fat. Can I factorthat into my weight loss knowing that I'm toning up?

Actually, 5 lbs is 5 lbs no matter how you look at it. The truth lies is the fact that 5 lbs of fat is much bulkier than the 5 lbs of muscle, but 5 lbs is still 5 lbs. Because fat is bulky and lumpy and takes up more space (volume) than muscle, a woman weighing 150 pounds with 19% fat will look much smaller (and be much healthier) than a woman at 150 pounds with 35% fat. Because muscle is more dense than fat the person with less fat and more muscle will look smaller. It's best to stick to how your clothes fit, how you feel and keep up the great work.
