Turbo Tax Tips

Q: With tax season right around the corner, I was wondering if there are any things I need to consider that can help me in filing my return. I am a single male with no dependents and am fully employed.

In order to get as high a refund as you would like, make sure you are doing the following:

1) If you are expecting a refund, file ASAP! Don't let the government hold onto your money any longer than it already has.

2) Are you deducting as much as you can? If you looked for a job last year, took any classes for your current profession, had high medical expenses or used your home and cell phone for work, you could be getting a deduction for these items. Make sure to ask your accountant or use a tax preparation software program like Turbo Tax.

3) While it might not help you for this year's taxes, owning a home is one of the best ways to get a deduction. If you are still renting, focus on buying a home in 2010. Besides the fact that being a home owner builds wealth in other areas of your life, it is also a great tax deduction!
