Warm Weather Beauty Disasters: How to Avoid These Hot Summer Messes

Short skirts, bathing suits and open toe shoes – these are just a few of every gal’s warm weather wardrobe favorites. Like it or not, those sticky hot temperatures can wreak havoc on our hair, nails and skin, destroying some of our hottest looks. But the Summer months, which are meant to be chill and relaxing, don’t have to turn into a high-maintenance beauty nightmare.  Take it from us, our beauty editors have some solutions to help you navigate through the heat:
1.    Suddenly a Slave to Waxing: As frustrating as it may be, the sun causes hair re-growth to happen more frequently and unevenly. To prevent sporadic sprouting do not shave or pluck hair between waxing sessions. Instead, take matters under your own control by investing in a personal waxing machine like the Gigi Mini-Pro Home Waxing Kit or The Clean and Easy Reusable Rechargeable Roll-on Waxer. Over the counter kits, though less reliable, can also do the trick so consider trying Aussie Nads No-Heat Hair Removal Gel, Sally Hansen No-Heat Gel Hair Remover or Bliss Spa’s Poetic Waxing At-Home Hair Removal Kit, now available at Sephora. Another great tip: try using a hair-growth-inhibiting cream such as Avon Skin So Soft Fresh & Smooth Silky Stay Shave Gel or Keri Moisture Therapy Shave Minimizing Lotion.

2.    Troublesome Toes: There’s nothing more embarrassing (or painful) than unsightly, soar feet during open-toe shoe season. To prevent ingrown nails, cut them straight across and just beyond the tips of your toes and go for the bigger size shoe. If your nails are yellow, thick and flaky, you may have a fungal infection, or a stain caused by the chemicals in your nail polish. Ask your podiatrist for a diagnosis before attempting to treat the condition. If it's a fungal infection, a series of laser treatments or oral meds can eliminate it. If nail polish is to blame, stick to those that don't contain harsh toxins. And if a bruised nail is showing itself, you can easily camouflage it with deep nail polishes in Summer colors like hot pink or popsicle orange.

3.    Messy Straps in a Strapless: Seamlessly bolstering those boobs can be quite the task if you’re donning a fun and flirty sundress or tank. The good news is that cotton bandeaus are everywhere, from American Apparel to Urban Outfitters, and provide the hidden light-weight support that will not leave you feeling restricted or confined during the warm weather months.   For extra support, try a tube bra that is reinforced with lycra such as Cosabella 'Free' Bandeau Bra or Maidenform: The Dream Collection Bandeau Bra.

4.    The Poor Pale Princess: It may be the golden age of spray tanning, but even the best self-tanning lotions and sprays can leave your ivory skin orange if you’re not careful. If you’re looking for consistent total body color, professional spray tanning is the way to go. If all you want is some color and don’t mind a few pale patches then the convenience (and affordability) of a bottle that you can travel with will be your best bet. Some of this season’s best portable options include - Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel, Jergens Natural Glow and Alba Botanical Very Emollient Sunless Tanning
