I once ran into a chipped glass coffee table I had, and cut myself deeply. You remember those 7th grade science pictures of all of the layers of 'dermis? I could see all of them. So I'm bleeding profusely. Literally, I was standing in my living room and my blood was shooting out and landing in my foyer. Because friends whose numbers I'd memorized were gone, I called 911. I told my sister about it the day after... how the 911 workers came up, assessed my situation, helped to stop the bleeding and found someone to drive me to the hospital. Her response was, "Were any of them cute?" I said, "Er. You know. Me in one room, my blood in another...I wasn't paying much attention." She said, "Look. If you aren't even going to try..."
