Several weeks ago a friend of mine delivered twins very early on in her pregnancy. She is a single mom by choice who I imagine can use some support during this period. Despite my attempts to reach out to her via phone and email, I have not received any updates on the status of the newborns. I would like to send a gift but something that will be helpful and practical rather than just a fun toy for the kids. I could really use some creative/thoughtful suggestions…

Well if she delivered prematurely, she probably has a lot going on. They may even still be in the hospital. At this point, she is too worried about them to think about answering email. I would wait a bit, make sure they are safe at home. Then see what she needs. If she had a shower already, she may have quite a bit. I would say wait to buy a gift until you are going to visit them. You've send her messages letting her know you're thinking about them all, and I think that's enough for now.

Twins?? Wow! She probably has her hands full and can use any help she can get.

There's an awesome website (www.diapers.com) that you can buy giftcards for. She can order her diapers, wipes, formula online and they're delivered the next day. I'm sure that could get down on some of the hassle of having to pack the kids in the car when she's running low and then drag them around the store.

A friend of mine who has a newborn LOVES the website and says it's been a life saver for her.

I agree with Shauna, having one new born is work enough, but two! She is probably simply too busy with taking care of them to even respond to your messages. I wouldn't take it personally.

Catherinette has a great site there! I always go with the gift cards when I am unsure what some one needs. I know they don't have a very personal touch as a gift, but they are so helpful! Anything she can use online or mail order would be best for her as I imagine running out to the store isn't something she can easily do right now.

Good luck and don't give up on your efforts in reaching out!

I think it is great that you are trying to help your friend out. I also think it is a good idea to get her something practical and unique. Since I do not know your friend personally I will take a gander on a few ideas I have. The firs tone would be a gift card for HER! After a woman has a baby, their body shape changes; even if they have lost all of their baby weight their clothes do not always fit the same. She will appreciate the fact that she can go and do something for herself when she has some time away. Also another great gift for a new mom could be a subcription to Parents Magazine. I really like this idea because as a new mom, she may have a ton of questions and this is a great magazine that gives ideas to parents and answers many questions on parenting. I hope this helps a little!

Congratulations to your friend! Since she is single and had twins, I'm sure she has her hands tied and can't respond to every phone call or e-mail she gets. I think a personalized gift would really show that you put some thought into it. How about a charm necklace with her name and the 2 twins names? Gifts to pamper her are also a great idea. You could buy her a gift card for a massage, facial, and manicure. I'm sure a massage would be great after having twins!! You could offer to cook for her when she is settled in. I think all of these things are much more thoughtful than just some toys for the babies. Good luck!!
